Lobbying for law, that will enhance our abilities to be effective law enforcement officials in our communities, continues to the primary function of the Wisconsin County Police Association. Throughout our history the WCPA, Ltd has been instrumental in changing, or enacting, many laws that have had a positive impact on the law enforcement community.
See some of our new photos here.
Each year, at our annual meeting, the membership of the WCPA, Ltd, enacts a legislative agenda for the coming year. To help accomplish those goals the WCPA, Ltd participates in three activities. First it has hired the Lobbying firm of Broyderick & Associates. Ramie Leonard is our primary lobbyist and works with our executive director to pursue our legislative agenda. Secondly we have a representative on the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Coalition Committee. This committee has representatives from every major law enforcement organization in the state. They meet during the legislative sessions and look for legislation where we can present a united front in lobbying for, or against, legislative bills. Lastly we have a representative who sits on the Law Enforcement Advisory Committee to DOT. There we have input to any Department of Transportation issues.
We are always looking at improving legislation in the areas of Highway Safety, Crime Legislation, Jail Issues, Retirement Funding, and Budget Issues which impact law enforcement. If you have any concerns or questions on any legislative issues or bills, please contact one of your directors.
Rep. John Ainsworth Accepts Award from Wisconsin County Police Association:

The Wisconsin County Police Association (WCPA) is committed to representing the best interests of county law enforcement across this great state. In this endeavor the Wisconsin County Police Association wishes to recognize and endorse those individuals who promote the best interests of county law enforcement. The Wisconsin County Police Association remains Wisconsin's only statewide organization to exclusively represent the interest of county law enforcement officers. The WCPA has maintained a membership of approximately 1,600 full-time members representing nearly every county in the state. We continue to be an important and effective representative of county law enforcement and its officers.
The WCPA awarded Representative John Ainsworth-R (Shawano) with a plaque commemorating all he has done to advance the cause of highway safety issues in the Wisconsin State Legislature. Ainsworth has been at the forefront of many important pieces of legislation which have greatly improved the safety of Wisconsin citizens on our state's roadways.

WCPA Executive Director, Bob Wierenga, along with the WCPA lobbyist, Ramie Leonard, look on as Governor Doyle signs SB 260 into law. SB 260 increases penalties for strangulation and suffocation offenses. The WCPA was a strong supporter of this legislation and worked with several other law enforcement groups and families of victims of these types of crimes.
