WCPA Executive Director Robert
Wierenga addresses the participants
of the "Cops Kids" summer camp.

For a number of years now the WCPA has participated in the “Friends of COPS program. The WCPA has made an annual contribution of $1,000 to this worthwhile organization. COPS provides resources to assist in the rebuilding of the lives of surviving families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty as determined by Federal criteria. COPS also provides training to law enforcement agencies on survivor victimization issues and educates the public of the needs to support the law enforcement profession and its survivors.

Executive Director Robert Wierenga presents
Suzie Sawyer, Exec. Dir. of Cops a check for $1,000.

For the past several years the Walworth County Sheriff’s department has had a first hand experience with COPS. The Salvation Army camp on Army Lake in East Troy Wisconsin is host to the COPS Kids summer camp. This camp is for children of law enforcement personnel killed in the line of duty. They are accompanied by their surviving parent and spend a week in Walworth County. Many of the Walworth County deputies give of their time to walk along side these young kids. Spearheaded by Deputies Tom Jones, Ken Brauer, and with the support of Sheriff Dave Graves many deputies give of their time to assist the COPS staff in any way possible.

Sgt. Robbie Hall gives a "Cops Kid"
the thrill of a lifetime.

This year, WCPA Executive Director Robert Wierenga, and members of the Walworth County Deputy Sheriff’s Association made a presentation of $1,000 to COPS executive director Suzie Sawyer. In his words to the kids and spouses, whose dad/mom and husband/wife who were killed in the line of duty, Wierenga made a commitment on behalf of the WCPA to continue to do whatever possible to help all of us be survivors. Suzie Sawyer asked that the WCPA think about finding 100 mentors for next years camp. One mentor for every child who attends camp who will be willing to give up one week to walk along side a young life who is facing adversity. The challenge is before us. Anyone wanting more information please contact Bob Wierenga info@wcpa.com
